Izvestia Cup Vintage 1980s Russian International Hockey Tournament Snowman Pucks. Up for auction is a lot of 5 very rare pucks from the 1983,84,85,86,87 Izvestia Cup. The graphic on each puck is raised above the surface of the puck. Sponsored by the Izvestia Daily newspaper in Russia, the Izvestia Cup was an annual international tournament held in late December. The first Cup took place in 1967. Due to its popularity, the Izvestia Cup soon became known as a "mini World Championship" played between the top national teams. By many accounts, it was called a "winter rehearsal" for the World Championship in the spring. Canada won the tournament in 1987. The tournament has always been represented by a distinctive cartoon snowman.
